It is estimated that the world population will be 9.7 billion people by 2064. That figure presents us with a huge challenge. Because how are we going to ensure that everyone has enough to eat? Continuing the current path is not an option. The environmental impact of our food system is simply too great – it means depleted agricultural lands and declining biodiversity. Sustainability scientist Dr Jessica Duncan (Wageningen University & Research) is up for the challenge. What is needed now to make the global food supply more sustainable?
